Read the passage below and answer question numbers 76-80.
Media plays a pivotal role in the construction of social norms and gender based role expectations, which have a special impact on the way society perceives women and also how they themselves conceptualise their roles. The dominant cultural values and practices of a given society are simply propagated by the media. As culture primarily defines what it means to be 'feminine' or 'masculine', it acts as a social construct within the framework of which gender images are not only constructed but also reinforced. Very rarely do the mainstream media portray a woman as a strong person with a 'mind of her own', the bourgeoning television soap operas, with a few exceptions showcase women as 'daughters', 'daughter-in-laws', 'mothers' or 'sisters' who play cosmetic characters 'rather than challenging established insensitive role models'. This is also more or less true of commercial cinema.
Media, in fact, continue to present both men and women in stereotyped ways that limit our perceptions of human possibilities. Typically men are portrayed as active, adventurous, powerful, sexually aggressive and largely involved in human relationships. Just as consistent with cultural views of gender are depictions of women as sex objects who are usually young, thin, beautiful, passive, dependent, and often incompetent. Female characters devote their primary energies for improving their appearances and taking care of houses and people. Because media pervades our lives, the way they misrepresent genders may distort how we see ourselves and what we perceive as normal and desirable of men and women.

76. Choose the correct answer from the following:
